A little about us, our beliefs and our service………

Wonthaggi Baptist Church is an Evangelical Christian Church worshipping God in contemporary ways.

“Loving God – Loving People" is our desire and message.

Our worship service is led by worship leaders who have planned worship around the theme for the day.

Songs, readings and other information will be displayed on the screen during the service.

We want you to feel at home in the service but also to experience the warmth of fellowship and the presence of God with you.

We enjoy a service of Communion within the Worship service on the first and third Sundays. Participation in the elements of this service is open to every person who loves and follows Jesus.

Our Church has a long history in Wonthaggi, having been established in 1910. The Church is part of the group of Churches known as the Baptist Union of Victoria.

Baptist Denomination - A Brief History

“I’m a Christian, surely that is all that matters”. - While this is a reasonable and important statement, the heritage and doctrine of a denomination is an important part of Christian Belief. As with most denominations, Baptist history goes back to The Reformation.

At that stage, Baptists were persecuted because of their belief in Believers Baptism by immersion, known as Ana-Baptist or re-baptisers.

By the 17th Century, the denomination was growing rapidly in both England and America. Baptists began formally worshipping in Australia in 1831. Like most Australian Churches, they were difficult times and small beginnings.

Baptists uphold the fundamental doctrines of the Christian Faith which includes the following:
